Condolences

  • It is with deep sorrow that we convey the sad demise of Mr.T.V.Babu, 74 years , father of our member Anija Anoop, on Tuesday April 8th in Kundara, Kerala. Funeral Service was held on Saturday April 12th at  St.Thomas Orthodox Valiyapally, Kundara.

    Detroit Mar Thoma Church expresses our deepest condolence to the family and requests everyone to uphold the family in your prayers as they grieve the loss of their loved one. May the almighty Lord grant them strength at this hour of mourning and comfort them with His peace

Please note that, passion week is the time set apart by church to collect special offertories and resissa. We will be setting up special desks in the parish hall to collect the Resissa and self denial during the Good Friday service. All adults members in our church are required to pay 3 dollars / adult, as per the circular. We will be also collecting the self denial. The funds collected will be remitted to the sabha for helping the various activities throughout the church. This is also the time to remit your arrears to our parish  like Voluntary Contribution, Diocesan collection and refreshments collection. If you have any questions, please check with the Trustees.

Sunday School

  • Midwest Regional Sunday School Teachers Retreat is on Saturday April 26th from 10 AM to 12 PM. This is hosted by St. Johns Mar Thoma Church Sunday School, Michigan. Rev. Dr. Moni Mathew is the Guest Speaker. All Sunday school teachers are requested to prayerfully attend

Youth Group

  • MTC Regional United Meeting-Wake up Dreamer on Tuesday, April 15, at 9:30 pm via Zoom
  • The 45th Diocesan Youth Fellowship Conference of the Diocese of North America of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church will be held from July 31-August 3, 2025. This year’s theme is “Living Out His Story,” with Rev. Larry Varghese Achen as the keynote speaker. The conference will be hosted by the Mar Thoma Church Atlanta Youth Fellowship. Registration is now Open. Early registration ends May 6th, and final registration ends July 6th. More information will be in the youth group email.
  • St Thomas Mar Thoma Church Youth Group is hosting the Midwest Regional Sports tournament on May 31st in Chicago. Those who are interested in creating a girls’ volleyball and boys’ basketball team, please register your teams by April 30th. More information will be in the youth group email.All youth group members are requested to attend

Young Family Fellowship (YFF)

  • As announced in February, we have collected interests from our parish families to start a Young Families Fellowship in our parish. Thankfully the response has been very positive.

    The first meeting of the Young Families Fellowship will be held on Friday, May 2nd, 2025 at 6:30 pm at the church.  Welcoming all young families along with your children to join the meeting.

Diocesan Family Conference

  • 35th family conference of Diocese of NA will be conducted from July 3 – 6 hosted by North East RAC. Conference is conducted at Long Island New York. Registration is in progress. For more details contact Achan, Assembly members, Mr.Boben George and Mr.Runcie Chacko.

Medical Team

  • Medical tram is looking for new volunteers to join the team. Those who are working in the medical field and interested to join the team , please give your name to Mrs. Mini Varghese.

Spring Cleaning

  • We are planning spring cleaning in the church and parsonage. Church inside cleaning is scheduled for April 25th Friday @5:30 PM. Church outside and parsonage outside cleaning is scheduled for April 26th at 9 AM. Signup sheets are posted in the parish hall notice board. Please sign up to help with these activities.
  • If you have any personal items left in the church, please make sure to collect it or else we might be throwing those in the dumpster or donating it to charity. We have also seen personal bibles left in the church. Requesting everyone to check if you have anything here that belongs to you.

Trustees Update

  • Many of our members take advantage of Zeffy to send their donations online. Recently, Zeffy has revised its agreement with us, limiting the upper limit of credit card transactons  to $300 per transaction. Please note that you can continue using Zeffy to send your contributions to the church. However, if your donation exceeds $300, and is made using credit card, please make sure to use multiple transactions. Additionally, if you have set up any automatic payments above $300, please update your automatic payment setup accordingly.If you are using direct bank transfer ACH/PAD  transactions through Zeffy, there is no change and no upper limit. This change is applicable to credit cards only.

Refreshments

  • Note from the refreshment team:
    • Refreshments will be served for 30 minutes only and the cleanup will start after. Requesting every one to join the fellowship time as soon as we finish the benediction.
    • They are also requesting those who haven’t contributed to the annual refreshment fund to do so soon. The minimum expected is 100 dollars.

As many of you may or may not know we maintain an online photo directory of parish families. Many photos in the directory are outdated and we invite and encourage all families to provide a more recent photo to be included in the directory. Note about Security – Email/Phone Contacts from the church

  • As we are all aware there are many security threats to our personal information in the modern age and unfortunately many ill-intended people try to access this information through underhanded methods. One of the common methods used are communication mediums such as e-mail or phone. We ask members to please take precaution when reviewing and responding to text messages and e-mails they receive including text messages/e-mails from church representatives. In regards to church emails our vicar (Santhosh Achen), secretary and trustees have specific church e-mail accounts: Vicar: vicar@detroitmarthoma.org or 248-792-1134 (Mobile) Secretary: sec@detroitmarthoma.org Trustees: trustees@detroitmarthoma.org. The Vicar, Secretary, and Trustees have their own personal e-mail which they rarely use to communicate parish related matters. If any member is suspicious or uncomfortable with a text message or email they have received from a church representative we ask that you do not respond and instead contact the church representative by phone or in -person. Also please note the Vicar or office bearers will NEVER ask for any personal information (ex. bank account or credit card number) or request for purchases to be made on their behalf via text message or email. We have recently been made aware of a scam e-mail that was sent out using the name of a church representative and therefore we are recommending appropriate precautions by parish members. If you have any further questions please contact the church office bearers.

Live Streaming of Church Events

Live streaming will be available on the church YouTube channel – https://youtube.com/@DetroitMarthomaChurch.  After clicking the link, click on “Live” and find the livestream for the respective church event.

We will do our very best to live stream all church events, however as this is dependent on trained volunteers, there may be technical interruptions and occasions where live streaming is not available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Zeffy – Online Payment Option

  • Zeffy is a user-friendly platform for not-for-profit organizations that allows for one-time and reoccurring monthly contributions with a no transaction fee option. Contributions can be made with credit card, bank account, Apple or Google pay. We strongly encourage all members to utilize Zeffy for electronic payments. Our Trustees want to thank all the members who have utilized this method as this streamlines the financial activities of the parish.
