General Body Notice

  • The General Body Meeting of the Detroit Mar Thoma Church will be held on Sunday, March 17th, 2024 in the sanctuary after the Holy Communion Service presided by the President and Vicar, Rev. Santhosh Varughese.The agenda is as follows:
    1. Presentation and Adoption of the Annual Report for 2023
    2. Presentation and Adoption of the ratified over-budgeted and non-budgeted items for 2023
    3. Presentation and Adoption of the Audited Accounts for 2023
    4. Presentation and Adoption of the Budget for 2024
    5. AOB with prior permission from the Chair

    All General Body members are requested to attend this meeting. Annual Report Books will be sent via e-mail to parish members this week. Limited copies of annual report books will be available next Sunday, March 10th, especially for our senior members.

    NOTE: Questions or clarifications pertaining to the Annual Report, the Statement of Accounts for 2023 and the 2024 Budget should be sent via email or post in the attention of the Vicar/President and/or the Secretary and received on or before 4 pm (EST) on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Each member is allowed to submit a maximum of 3 questions. Parish members should be present in the General Body meeting to raise the submitted questions.

FIRST COMMUNICANTS’ DEDICATION SERVICE/ PARISH DAY /WELCOME MEETING FOR RT. REV. DR. ABRAHAM MAR PAULOS

  • Our Diocesan Episcopa Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos will be visiting our parish for the first time on Sunday, March 24th.
    • There will be a Sunday School common session with Thirumeni at 9 am, encouraging all Sunday School children to attend this special session with Thirumeni.
    • Palm Sunday and Holy Communion Service in English will start at 9:30 am. First Communicants Dedication Service will be conducted during the Holy Communion Service. We have 13 first communicants this year, let’s keep them all in our prayers as they prepare for this special day.
    • Our Parish day celebrations will be held after the worship service. Our Diocesan Episcopa will be the chief guest. As this Thirumeni’s first visit to our parish there will be a welcome meeting for Thirumeni along with Parish Day celebrations. We encourage all members to attend the Parish Day activities and welcome meeting. Lunch will be arranged after the meeting.

Great Lent “Sandhya Namaskaram”

  • The Great Lent “Sandhya Namaskaram” evening prayers will continue this on weekdays, Monday through Friday, starting at 7 pm. We are blessed and thankful with the level of participation in this past week and we request everyone’s continued prayers and presence. Please note there will be no Fasting Prayer during the lent season.

40th Friday

  • 40th Friday will be observed on Friday, March 22nd. Holy Qurbana in Malayalam at 10 am.

Passion Week Events

  • Passion Week will be observed starting Sunday March 24th. All Passion Week events will occur at the church.
    • Palm Sunday: March 24th, Holy Qurbana in English at 9:30 am. Service will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos. First Communicants Dedication Service and Parish Day will also be observed.
    • “Sandhya Namaskaram”: Monday thru Wednesday, March 25th to March 27th, at 7 pm
    • Maundy Thursday: March 28th, Holy Qurbana in Malayalam at 7 pm
    • Good Friday Service: March 29th at 9am. Part 1 and 3 of the service will be in Malayalam and Part 2 will be in English.

Sunday School

  • First Communicants class will be held today Sunday, March 10th, after the worship Service. All First Communicants are required to attend.
  • There will be a Sunday School Teachers meeting today Sunday, March 10th at 5 pm via Zoom. All SS teachers are requested to attend
  • Our VBS 2024 will be held from June 17-23. Theme for the VBS is “The Great Jungle Journey”. Please mark your calendars and further details will be provided soon. If you are interested in volunteering, please see the sign-up list in the fellowship hall or contact the conveners Mrs. Sabina Cherian, Mrs. Usha Thomas, or Dr. Suma Thomas.

Youth Group

  • Youth Group bible study on Saturday, March 16th at 1:30 pm at the church.
  • There will be Youth Group activity on Saturday, March 23rd, more details to come.

Senior Fellowship

  • The Diocese of NA Senior Citizen Fellowship is hosting monthly prayer meetings via Zoom. The prayer meeting will be inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos on March 11th at 8 pm EST via Zoom. Devotional message will be given by Rev. Abraham Thomas. All senior members are requested to attend.

Yuvajana Sakhyam

  • YS Monthly meeting will be held today March 10th at 6:00 pm via Zoom. All YS members are requested to attend.
  • The 22nd Diocesan Yuvajana Sakhyam National Conference will be held from Thursday, September 26th to Sunday, September 29th hosted by and held at the Mar Thoma Church of Dallas Farmers Branch. The conference theme is MOULD: Fashioning Faith Full Future.
    • As part of the preparations the conference committee is looking for a creative conference logo. For this there will be a conference logo design contest and the committee is welcoming YS members from all churches to participate. The contest is open until March 20th, 2024. All entries must be submitted electronically to the National Conference Committee at ysconf2024logo@mtcfb.org. Encouraging participation from all YS members

Choir

  • If anyone would like to purchase the Hasha Kramam or Kristheeya Keerthanangal books, DMTC choir will be making these available for purchase at $10 and $15 respectively. All proceeds from the book sale will go towards Choir Fest related funding. Those interested in purchasing the books or making donations can do so in the parish hall after service or contact Mrs. Jessy Philip, Mrs. Sheena Mathews or Mrs. Sarah Laby. Your support is greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks to the refreshment committee for arranging today’s refreshments.

We will do our very best to live stream all church events, however as this is dependent on trained volunteers, there may be technical interruptions and occasions where live streaming is not available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
