General Body Notice

The General Body Meeting of the Detroit Mar Thoma Church will be held today, Sunday, November 16th, 2025 in the sanctuary after the Holy Communion Service, presided by the President and Vicar, Rev. Santhosh Varughese. All General Body members are requested to attend this meeting.

The agenda is as follows:

    • Maintenance Committee for the year 2026
    • Refreshment Committee for the year 2026
    • Sports & Recreations Convener for the year 2026

Cottage Prayers

  • Prayer Group #1 will have a prayer meeting today Sunday Nov 16 at 5:30 PM at church hosted by Mrs. Susamma Philip and Children. This is a combined prayer meeting and all members of our church are invited to attend this prayer meeting
  • Prayer group 5 will have a prayer meeting on November 23rd, Sunday at 5.30pm at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Thomas, 7209 Tonnell Avenue, Shelby Twp. All the prayer group 5 members are kindly requested to attend the meeting.
  • Prayer group 5 will have a prayer meeting on November 30th, Sunday at 5 pm at the residence of Mr & Mrs Mammen Mathew, 3877 Corkwood Dr. Sterling Heights. All the prayer group 5 members are kindly requested to attend the meeting.

Sunday School

  • The Sunday School Christmas Carol Program practices will continue today after refreshments and next weekend on:
    • Saturday, November 22nd (10 am – 12 pm)
    • Sunday, November 23rd during the morning session at 9 am & after refreshments

We encourage all Sunday School students to come and participate!

First Communion Classes

  • First Communion classes will begin this Friday @ 7:30 PM via Zoom. If your child is registered to take the classes, please make sure they attend the session. Attending the sessions are mandatory for receiving the communion. Please contact Achan or Sunday School superintendent if you have any questions.

Senior Citizen Fellowship  

  • Senior Fellowship meeting will be held on Nov 22nd Saturday at 11 AM at church. Requesting all senior citizen fellowship members to prayer fully attend this meeting.

Youth Group

Christmas Carol Rounding – 2025

  • The joyful Christmas season is fast approaching, and our parish is preparing for the celebrations. As part of our tradition, we will be organizing Christmas Carol Rounding once again this year.

    The tentative dates for the areas are as follows,

         – Friday, Dec-5 : Canton / Plymouth

        – Saturday Dec-6: Northville/Livonia/South Lyon

        – Sunday, Dec- 7: Novi/Farmington Hills/Farmington/W.Bloomfield/Bloomfield Hills/Wixom

     

        – Friday, Dec 12: Roseville/Warren/Shelby/Clinton TWP/Oakland Twp

        – Saturday, Dec-13: Sterling Heights/Macomb Twp

        – Sunday, Dec-114: Troy/Rochester Hills

    We are also planning to visit Lansing and Ann Arbor and the date will be announced later.

    More details will be published in the coming weeks.

    If you prefer not to host the carollers at your home, kindly inform your Prayer Group leader or send an email to our parish secretary at sec@detroitmarthoma.org. This will greatly assist us in planning the visits efficiently.

    As you have seen over the years, carol rounding is a great time of joy and fellowship for young and old alike  and the number of carollers have gone up very significantly.  If you have any limitations on the number of carollers who could visit your home, please let your PG leader or achan know so that we will be happy to accommodate your request. For us, the most important thing is to spread the joy of christmas.

    Please mark the date of our Christmas Carol Service, it is Dec 20th Saturday @ 5PM. Both choirs are doing lots of hard work in preparing for the Christmas Carol service.

Marthoma Merit Award  

Ecumenical Christmas Program 

  • Date: Sunday, December 28th
    Time: 5:00 PM
    Venue: St. Thomas Syro Malabar Church HallWe are delighted to announce that the Detroit Ecumenical Council’s 31st Annual Christmas Program will be held on December 28th @ 5:00 PM. We encourage all member churches to participate and join in celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Each member church is allotted 10 minutes for their program.

    Please submit your program details to deckcmi@gmail.com by December 15th.

    Charity Initiative

    As part of our Christmas celebration, we are inviting member churches to propose charitable causes for consideration.
    Please submit your applications by December 15th. One cause will be selected, and a special collection will be held during the program to support it.

Trustees Update

  • Year – End Contribution Reminder:As we are reaching the end of the year and Christmas season, kindly request everyone to check on your voluntary contribution  & Refreshments account and submit any pending dues as soon as possible. Per Trustees, Accounts for 2025 will close on 12/31 midnight and any amount paid after that will be accounted for next year. Please take a moment to check and make your payments promptly. Voluntary Contribution is 85 dollars per month as decided by parish.

    If you are unsure about how you have contributed so far, please stop by at the office or send them an email with your name to trustees@detroitmarthoma.org

  • Another note from the Trustees, the Church doors (front and back) are unlocked during Sunday school, and worship service. Please do not prop the doors open, please keep them closed, this will enhance security for our church, as well as minimize maintenance concerns as we approach the colder weathers.

Refreshments

  • Thanks to Dr. Bachu Abraham & Family for sponsoring todays refreshments. Thanks to refreshment committee for all the arrangements
  • Note from the refreshment team:
    • Refreshments will be served for 30 minutes only and the cleanup will start after. Requesting every one to join the fellowship time as soon as we finish the benediction.
    • They are also requesting those who haven’t contributed to the annual refreshment fund to do so soon. The minimum expected is 100 dollars.
    • We also request everyone—kids and adults alike—to please dispose of used plates, cups, and glasses in the trash cans provided. Leaving them around the parish hall creates extra work for our volunteers, who already dedicate their time to arrange the refreshments, clean up all the plates, coffee makers and other vessels used in the refreshments and make the space ready for the next event. Let’s all do our part to keep the hall clean and reduce the burden on our volunteers and office bearers. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Showers of Blessings

  • We are delighted to announce the birth of Baby Anaya Sarah Joseph, daughter of Justin & Sharon Thomas, granddaughter of our members Mr. Thomas Varghese ( Bijoy ) and Mrs. Usha Sarah Thomas on 11/10. Both baby and mom are doing well. Congratulations to both parents and the grand parents

Live Streaming of Church Events

Live streaming will be available on the church YouTube channel – https://youtube.com/@DetroitMarthomaChurch.  After clicking the link, click on “Live” and find the livestream for the respective church event.

We will do our very best to live stream all church events, however as this is dependent on trained volunteers, there may be technical interruptions and occasions where live streaming is not available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Zeffy – Online Payment Option

  • Zeffy is a user-friendly platform for not-for-profit organizations that allows for one-time and reoccurring monthly contributions with a no transaction fee option. Contributions can be made with credit card, bank account, Apple or Google pay. We strongly encourage all members to utilize Zeffy for electronic payments. Our Trustees want to thank all the members who have utilized this method as this streamlines the financial activities of the parish.
