General Body Notice
A General Body Meeting of the Detroit Mar Thoma Church will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025 in the sanctuary after the Holy Communion Service presided by the President and Vicar, Rev. Santosh Varughese
The agenda is as follows:
- Purchase of the new church pews – Recommendation from Executive committee
- Articles of Incorporation – Updates with state filing
- Church Photo Directory – Proposal for creating a new photo directory.
- Request to install a new Storage shed.
- Schedule changes for worship services for Christmas service
- AOB with permission of chair

Cottage Prayers
- Prayer group #5 will be having a prayer meeting at the residence of Mr. Shaji Thomas & Family today May 11th at 5:30 pm. Their address is 3425, corkwood drive, sterling heights, MI. All prayer group 5 members are kindly requested to attend the prayer fellowship.
- Prayer Group #6 will have a prayer meeting at the residence of Mr. P. K. Thomaskutty & Family (47200 Robins Nest Drive, Shelby Township, MI 48315; Tel: 586-435-6900) on Sunday, May 18th at 5:30 PM. All prayer group 6 members are requested to attend the prayer fellowship.
Edavaka Mission
- There will be a prayer meeting of Edavaka Mission on Saturday, May 17,2025 at our church at 10:30 AM. All are welcomed to attend the meeting.
Youth Group
- Youth Group Roller-skating: Join us for a fun time at Bonaventure Skating Center in Farmington on May 17th @1-2:30 pm! Bring money for admission and skate rental!
Address: 24505 Halsted Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48335 - Youth Group Lock-in: This year’s YG picnic will be held in Troy so we are looking for Girls’ and Boys’ houses to host. The lock-in will be at 5:30 pm on May 25, and go overnight till the picnic at Firefighters Park on Monday at 10 am. The youth group will handle food arrangements. If you are interested in hosting please reach out to a committee member!
- DYFC 2025: The 45th Diocesan Youth Fellowship Conference of the Diocese of North America of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church will be held from July 31-August 3, 2025. Registration is now Open. If you are 18+ and interested please register soon!. Registration ends JULY 6th. More information will be in the youth group email. Sunday School
- 13 students from grades 5-9 are taking the Diocesan exam today from 12-1:30 so please keep them in your prayers.
- Our Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 16-22 immediately after the school closes. Encourage all parents to register their children starting this week. Registration is currently open. Please talk to any of the Sunday school teachers or convenors for details.
Senior Citizen’s Fellowship Meeting
- Mar Thoma Church Diocese of North America is hosting a prayer meeting on May 12th at 8 PM EST via Zoom. Rev. Joel S. Thomas, the new Diocesan Secretary will be giving the main message. This meeting is hosted by North East Region Center A.

Sevika Sanghom
- A Prayer meeting hosted by the Diocesan Sevika Sanghom will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, @ 8.00 PM (ET) via Zoom platform. Mrs. Merlin T Mathew (Kochamma) will deliver the main message based on the theme “Motherhood: Fragrance of Love and Strength of resiliency “. Mar Thoma Festival
- Our annual summer event, Mar Thoma Fest will be held on Saturday, August 16th. For cultural program, we are looking for participants for the dance performances – specifically kids from the 1st grade through college. A google sign up sheet will be sent out in the today’s announcements. The deadline sign up is Sunday, May 25th .
We also needs lots of help with choreographers for the kids dances.Anyone highschool age or oder is welcome to choreograph. If you are interested, reach out to Rebecca Varghese ( Becca )

Diocesan Family Conference
- 35th family conference of Diocese of NA will be conducted from July 3 – 6 hosted by North East RAC. Conference is conducted at Long Island New York. Registration is in progress. For more details contact Achen, Assembly members, Mr. Boben George and Mr. Runcie Chacko.
Maintenance Updates
- Thanks to maintenance committee and volunteers for fixing the choir benches and bathroom lights
Refreshments
- Thanks to the Refreshments committee for arranging todays refreshments. Requesting everyone to join the fellowship immediately after benediction
- Note from the refreshment team:
- Refreshments will be served for 30 minutes only and the cleanup will start after. Requesting every one to join the fellowship time as soon as we finish the benediction.
- They are also requesting those who haven’t contributed to the annual refreshment fund to do so soon. The minimum expected is 100 dollars.
Birthdays & Wedding Anniversaries
- DMTC Family wishes all our fellow members celebrating their Birthday and Wedding Anniversary this upcoming week. May the Almighty Lord bless each one of you and your family in the New Year and the years ahead.

As many of you may or may not know we maintain an online photo directory of parish families. Many photos in the directory are outdated and we invite and encourage all families to provide a more recent photo to be included in the directory. Note about Security – Email/Phone Contacts from the church
- As we are all aware there are many security threats to our personal information in the modern age and unfortunately many ill-intended people try to access this information through underhanded methods. One of the common methods used are communication mediums such as e-mail or phone. We ask members to please take precaution when reviewing and responding to text messages and e-mails they receive including text messages/e-mails from church representatives. In regards to church emails our vicar (Santhosh Achen), secretary and trustees have specific church e-mail accounts: Vicar: vicar@detroitmarthoma.org or 248-792-1134 (Mobile) Secretary: sec@detroitmarthoma.org Trustees: trustees@detroitmarthoma.org. The Vicar, Secretary, and Trustees have their own personal e-mail which they rarely use to communicate parish related matters. If any member is suspicious or uncomfortable with a text message or email they have received from a church representative we ask that you do not respond and instead contact the church representative by phone or in -person. Also please note the Vicar or office bearers will NEVER ask for any personal information (ex. bank account or credit card number) or request for purchases to be made on their behalf via text message or email. We have recently been made aware of a scam e-mail that was sent out using the name of a church representative and therefore we are recommending appropriate precautions by parish members. If you have any further questions please contact the church office bearers.
Live Streaming of Church Events
Live streaming will be available on the church YouTube channel – https://youtube.com/@DetroitMarthomaChurch. After clicking the link, click on “Live” and find the livestream for the respective church event.
We will do our very best to live stream all church events, however as this is dependent on trained volunteers, there may be technical interruptions and occasions where live streaming is not available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

- Zeffy is a user-friendly platform for not-for-profit organizations that allows for one-time and reoccurring monthly contributions with a no transaction fee option. Contributions can be made with credit card, bank account, Apple or Google pay. We strongly encourage all members to utilize Zeffy for electronic payments. Our Trustees want to thank all the members who have utilized this method as this streamlines the financial activities of the parish.
