Mindfulness in Speech (Maria Manoj)

Ephesians 4:29

Lent is a season of reflection and renewal, a time to examine not just our actions but also our words. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us of the power of speech—our words can either build up or tear down, encourage or wound, heal or harm. In a world filled with negativity, gossip, and harsh criticism, Christ calls us to something higher. Our speech should reflect His love, grace, and truth. This means resisting the temptation to speak out of anger, frustration, or pride, and instead choosing words that uplift and strengthen those around us.  As we journey through Lent, let us be mindful of how we speak. Do our words reflect Christ’s kindness and truth? Do they bring life to others or drain their spirit? This season is an opportunity to repent of careless or hurtful speech and seek God’s help in speaking with wisdom and grace. When we surrender our tongues to Him, our words become instruments of His love, pointing others to His goodness. May we use this time to grow in patience, gentleness, and encouragement, allowing our words to bring light to a world that desperately needs it.

CLOSING PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You have given us the gift of speech, and yet we often misuse it. Forgive us for words spoken in anger, for gossip, for times we have torn others down instead of lifting them up. This Lenten season, purify our hearts so that our words may reflect Your love. Teach us to speak with kindness, wisdom, and encouragement, bringing grace to those who hear. May our words always honor You and reflect the transforming power of Your Spirit in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
