The Lenten Experience of Sharing (Jiyah Varghese)

Matthew 5:38-48

There are many instances in our lives where we find it difficult to put others before ourselves and fail to share, especially those who we think may not deserve this love. When we experience these feelings, we should remember that Jesus called us to give freely, to go beyond what is asked, and even to love our enemies. He reminds us, “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” (Matthew 5:42)

Just as Jesus sacrificed His life on the cross for our undeserving sins to be redeemed, we should be empathetic, generous, and express unconditional love, not only giving back when it’s easy, but offering love and mercy when it’s hard.

During this Lenten season of reflection, let us remember to embody the boundless grace of Jesus and give our time, forgiveness, and kindness to those who oppose us.

CLOSING PRAYER

Dear Lord Heavenly Father, we endlessly thank you for your atoning sacrifice on the cross and for Your unconditional love towards us, Your children who have wronged you. We are so unworthy of your love, yet you never cease to care for us. We pray for the hearts of those who have been persecuted, asking that you heal them and allow us to forgive those who have done the same to us. Help us to represent You, Gracious Lord, in our actions, thoughts, and words every day.

We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
