A General Body Meeting of the Detroit Mar Thoma Church will be held on Sunday, August 16th, 2026 in the sanctuary after the Holy Communion Service presided by the President and Vicar, Rev. Jobin Jose.

Condolences

Mr. John K. Mathews
Mr. John K. Mathews (Vinu) (58 Yrs),son-in-law of our member Mr. Peter & Valsala Mathews and brother-in-law of Mrs. Manju Chacko ( Robin ) passed away on Tuesday, 08/11/2026 at 1:00 PM in San Francisco, CA.
He was an active member of the Mar Thoma Church of San Francisco Bay Area and has faithfully served the parish in various positions. He is survived by his beloved wife Maya, and children Ritu and Mathai.
Funeral Services are planned for 08/22/2026 at the Mar Thoma Church of San Francisco Bay Area.
Mrs. Shirley Oliver
We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Mrs. Shirley (Oliver) Oommen (54 Yrs) , our former member and daughter of the Late Mr. Simson and Mariamma Oliver, who were among the founding families of Detroit Mar Thoma Church.
Mrs. Shirley passed away peacefully at her home in Indiana on Friday, August 14,2026. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Koshy Oommen and her son, Rohan Oommen.
Funeral services are planned for Sunday, 08/23 and Monday 08/24. Details will be shared later.

Detroit Mar Thoma Church extends our heartfelt condolences to these bereaved families. We request all members to uphold them in your prayers, asking God to grant peace, comfort, and assurance of His loving presence during this time of sorrow.

2026 Mar Thoma Festival

Mar Thoma Fest is this Saturday. We invite the entire church family to come and join the fellowship. We will have a special announcement about Marthofest by Convenor Mr. Shawn Thomas immediately after this to give you all the details.

For many years, Mar Thoma Fest has been a wonderful time of fellowship, allowing us to come together as a church family, use our God-given talents to serve one another, and showcase the gifts and abilities God has blessed us with. This year’s Mar Thoma Fest holds even greater significance, as we were unable to conduct our annual church picnic due to hazardous weather conditions.

Mar Thoma Fest has always been an opportunity to strengthen our bonds with fellow parish members while also welcoming our friends and neighbors into our church community. As we make the most of the remaining summer days, we encourage everyone to mark their calendars and make plans to join us on August 22nd. It promises to be an evening filled with fellowship, fun, and memorable moments for all ages.

As in previous years, the proceeds from Mar Thoma Fest will support two local charitable organizations: Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries and Grace Centers of Hope (Pontiac). Through your participation, you will not only enjoy a wonderful community event but also help make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

22nd Diocesan Sevika Sanghom Conference

The 22nd Diocesan Sevika Sanghom Conference of the Diocese of North America will be held October 1–4, 2026, at Valley Forge Resort in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and will be hosted by Christos Mar Thoma Church, Philadelphia.

Theme: “Women: Rooted in Christ and Routed for Mission”

Early registration ends on July 31. Registrations received after this date will be subject to an additional $25 late registration fee.

40th Annual Midwest Regional Youth Conference,

Registration is now open for the 40th annual Midwest Regional Youth Conference, hosted by the Detroit Mar Thoma Church Youth Fellowship, which will be held December 26-29th, 2026, at the Michindoh Conference Center.

This year’s theme is “Unmasked“, based on 1 Sam 16:7, and reminds us that God looks at the heart rather than outward appearances. Early registration closes on November 1st, and regular registration closes on Nov 30th.

We encourage all eligible youths age 13 and up to register, and ask the church to keep the conference and everyone attending in your prayers

Additionally, this year as part of our fundraising efforts, we will be holding a raffle for one free registration. Entry is only $10 a ticket and unlimited entries are allowed. To participate, send cash, check (Detroit Mar Thoma Church Youth League), or Venmo (@DetroitMarThomaYF) with the registrant’s name and Regionals 2026 Raffle Ticket in the memo. The winner will be selected and notified on Sunday, Dec 6, 2026.

2027 Family Conference

Many of you are familiar with the Regional Assembly Council (RAC), which was introduced several years ago. However, the Midwest RAC was officially constituted last year, bringing together all Mar Thoma parishes and congregations in the Midwest region. Members of the RAC include office bearers of parish, Mandalam and Assembly members, and Diocesan Council members from the region, with our Diocesan Episcopa serving as its President.

Over the past year, I have had the privilege of serving as the RAC Treasurer. During this time, we have worked to formalize the bylaws and complete the registration of the organization with the State of Illinois, and I am happy to share that this process has now been completed.

As mentioned in the letter that was read, the Midwest RAC will be hosting the 2027 Family Conference, and our parish is playing a significant role in its planning and organization. We are blessed to have several members of our parish serving in key leadership positions:

Ms. Evangeline John – Convenor, Children and Youth Program

We humbly request the prayers and support of our parish family for this important event. We hope to leave our parish’s signature on the way this conference is planned and conducted, making it spiritually enriching, family-friendly, accessible, and truly worthwhile for everyone who attends.

Please mark your calendars for July 1–4, 2027, and begin planning now. We hope to see a strong participation from our parish as we gather with Mar Thomites from across North America in the Chicago area for this special conference.

First Fruit Auction

This year’s first fruit auction will be held on Sunday, August 30^th. If anyone would like to donate any items to be included in the auction, please let your prayer group leaders know. Items can include plants, food, jewelry, paintings and hand made items, and any other unique or useful things. Please note, we are not accepting clothes at this time. You can bring the non-perishable items at any point until Saturday Aug 29^th. Please bring perishable items on Aug 30^th Sunday Morning.
