In\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hebrew, \u201cdepth\u201d means \u201cdeep waters.\u201d The psalmist of\u00a0 this passage cries out for help, revealing his deep\u00a0 awareness of his sin. Imagine him feeling as if he\u2019s\u00a0 crying out from the bottom of a deep body of water, or\u00a0 in this case, out of the depths of his suffering. He\u00a0 expresses his need for mercy and pleads for God\u2019s\u00a0 forgiveness. He is also determined to wait upon God\u00a0 and the rescue He would bring. But he doesn\u2019t just put\u00a0 his hope in the mercy or redemption itself. He puts his\u00a0 hope in God himself, finding solace in who God is:\u00a0 sovereign, steadfast, loving, forgiving and faithful.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What a privilege it is that we can cry out to God in our\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">greatest depths and be heard by Him in the heights of\u00a0 heaven, knowing that he will one day deliver us. Those\u00a0 who have been in the depths know they can have no\u00a0 confidence in themselves, but that our only hope is the\u00a0 God who graciously forgives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CLOSING PRAYER\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lord, we thank you for being our forgiving and faithful\u00a0 Father and for your steadfast love. Please forgive us\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for our sins and give us the patience to willingly wait\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for you to deliver us from the depths of our sin and\u00a0 suffering and trust in your timing.
