{"id":2847,"date":"2019-10-01T08:57:57","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T12:57:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/detroitmarthoma.org\/main\/?p=2847"},"modified":"2019-10-01T08:57:57","modified_gmt":"2019-10-01T12:57:57","slug":"we-can-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/detroitmarthoma.org\/main\/2019\/10\/01\/we-can-know\/","title":{"rendered":"We Can Know"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong>1 John\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\">5:10-15<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><strong>I write these things to you . . . that you may know that you have eternal life.(1 John 5:13)<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<div>As I sat on a train headed for an important appointment, I began to wonder if I was on the right train. I had never traveled that route before and had failed to ask for help. Finally, overcome by uncertainty and doubt, I exited at the next station\u2014only to be told I had indeed been on the right train!<\/div>\n<div>That incident reminded me how doubt can rob us of peace and confidence. At one time I had struggled with the assurance of my salvation, but God helped me deal with my doubt. Later, after sharing the story of my conversion and my assurance that I was going to heaven, someone asked, \u201cHow can you be sure you are saved and going to heaven?\u201d I confidently but humbly pointed to the verse that God had used to help me: \u201cI write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life\u201d (1 John 5:13).<\/div>\n<div>God promises that through faith in His Son, Jesus, we\u00a0<em>already<\/em>\u00a0have eternal life: \u201cGod has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son\u201d (v. 11). This assurance sharpens our faith, lifts us up when we are downhearted, and gives us courage in times of doubt.<\/div>\n<div><em><strong>PRAYER<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Dear Lord, during my times of doubt help me remember\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\">the promise<\/a>\u00a0of Your Word.
