Condolences

Detroit Mar Thoma Church expresses our deepest condolence at the sad demise of Ashley Chacko’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Julie Abraham and her nephew, Nicholas Abraham on October 26th, 2019 in a fatal car accident. The funeral service was held on November 2nd, 2019 in Durham, N. Carolina. May the Almighty Lord strengthen and comfort the family with peace that passeth all human understanding. Let’s all please stand for a moment of silence and prayer.

General Body Notice

The General Body Meeting of the Detroit Mar Thoma Church will be held on Sunday, November 10th, 2019 in the church sanctuary after the Holy Communion Service presided by the President and Vicar, Rev. Varghese Thomas. All General Body members are requested to attend this meeting.

The agenda is as follows:

  1. Review status for starting the construction of new Madhbaha and Parking lot.
  2. Foundation stone laying ceremony on November 12th.
  3. Vicar & Family’s health insurance policy.

Worship Services


  • Next Sunday: November 10th, 2019
    • Holy Qurbana service in English at 10:15 am
    • Sunday School at 9 AM
    • Adult Bible Study at 9:30am

Weekly Prayers


  • Intercessory Prayer on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the Church.
  • Fasting prayer on Friday at 10:30 am at the Church.

Prayer Fellowship


  • Prayer Group 4:  will have a prayer meeting on November 3rd, Sunday at 5 PM at the residence of Mr. Varughese and Gracy Abraham in Plymouth. Prayer group leader for 2020 will be elected at this meeting.

  • Prayer Group 1 will have a prayer meeting on November 9th Saturday at 5:00pm at the residence of Mr. Mathew & Santhamma Abraham. Address: 19679 Liverpool, Livonia
  • Prayer Group 7 will have a prayer meeting on November 10th Sunday at 5:30 PM at the residence of Mr.  Jacob & Annie (Shirley) Thomas in Roseville. Prayer group leader for the year 2020 will be elected at this meeting.  Address: 25729 Salem, Roseville.

Election of Representatives


  • All prayer groups and church organizations are requested to elect their representatives to the executive committee on or before November 24th.

Sunday School


  • There will be a Sunday School teacher’s meeting today after the service. All teachers are requested to attend.  Next Sunday November 10th will be observed as World Sunday School Day. Please make sure to collect the envelopes for the offertory. The funds collected will be given to the Diocese for the Kids for Kids project.  Christmas Carol Service practices will be starting after the worship service. Also, morning sessions will be used for song practices. All the children are requested to attend both the morning and after service practices.

Yuvajana Sakhyam


  • Yuvajana Sakhyam General body meeting will be held on November 9th, Saturday at 6 pm at the residence of Mr. Boben & Shalan George. Office bearers for the year 2020 will be elected at this meeting. Address: 24439 Perceval Ln., Novi, MI 48375

Youth Group


  • Regional Youth Conference 2019 Midwest Regional Youth Conference-2019 hosted by the Chicago Marthoma Church Youth Group will be held from December 26th, Thursday to December 29th, Sunday at the Michindoh Conference Center. The main speaker is Rev. Jonathan Saunders from the Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Midtown Detroit and the theme for the conference is “Lost & Found: To Seek, Serve and Save” based on Ephesians 2:12-13. The registration cost is $140 and additional $10 for T-shirts. Registration for the Midwest Regional Youth Conference begins today.   • Friday (11/8): Friday Prayer at Church at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday (11/9): Bible Study at Church at 1:30 p.m.
  • Community Service Event

    We are planning to work with Lighthouse in the Southfield location on November 22nd from 5pm to 9pm. Lighthouse provides direct services (food, shelter, rental/utility and other financial assistance, clothing, crisis referrals) and stability and housing programs that develop and support self-sufficiency. We will be helping Lighthouse at their Emergency Shelter location by setting up dinner in their kitchen and serving the meals to the shelter residents and other homeless people in the area. If you can’t make it for the setting up you can always join us for the serving starting at 7pm. You must be 12 years or older to participate. If you are interested, please contact Subin Thomas. Let the leaders know ahead of time if you need a ride!

  • Diocesan Leadership Conference 2020 (DLC 2020) in Atlanta, GA

    Years ago, the Diocesan Leadership Conference was curated to train the younger generation(21-35) in leading today’s Mar Thoma Church. To continue on this path and resurface our vision, if you are interested in attending this year’s conference we ask that you fill out the questionnaire provided in the Youth Group email. The deadline to register for the conference is December 1st and there is a cap of 100 delegates. Already more than 50 delegates have signed up. So if you are interested in attending the Leadership Conference, we encourage you to fill out the questionnaire ASAP as that will be the first step to being able to register. More information can be found in the Youth Group email. Conference Dates: January 2nd – 5th, 2020  Venue: Atlanta MTC, GA

  • Sevika Sangham General body meeting will be held on November 17th, Sunday after the worship service at the church. Office bearers for the year 2020 will be elected at this meeting.

  • Choir General Body meeting will be held on November 17th, Sunday after the worship service at the church. Office bearers for the year 2020 will be elected at this meeting.

Edavakasangam List


  • Edavakasangam list is published on the notice board. Please review the list and if there are any corrections, please inform the Vicar on or before November 15th, 2019.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony


  • Foundation Stone laying ceremony of the new Madhbaha, sanctuary expansion and parking lot will be conducted on November 12th, Tuesday at 5pm by our diocesan bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Issac Mar Philexenos Episcopa and will be followed by a Sandhya namskaram. We invite our church family to prayerfully attend this ceremony and bless the occasion.

  • Nebu Mathew(S/o Mammen & Lilly Mathew) and Gincy Mathew welcomed their baby boy Lucas Nebu Mathew on Friday, November 1st, 2019 at 2:45 AM. Congratulations to the family.
